Backlink analysis is a big part of what we SEOs do. Not only do we want to take a look at our client’s backlinks, we also want to know about the links to our client’s competition. Unfortunately, this kind of analysis can be pretty time consuming – an hour spent analysing a table of links might yield ten worth visiting and one worth contacting. Not a great success rate.

Traditionally, backlink tools would just return a big list of links – the more comprehensive the better. This kind of raw data is great, but the horrible truth is that it doesn’t actually tell us anything. We either have to physically look at the results, or use another program like excel to manipulate the data into something meaningful. The perfect backlink tool would not only bring back fresh, comprehensive data, it would sort it for us according to what we find important, highlighting the kind of backlinks we’re interested in automatically.

SEO is all about relavent high PR links back to your site!! Yes folks, it is that simple. But what’s not so simple is getting those links back to your site. One way to get some solid links back to your site is through posting comments on other blogs by searching in Google for your keyword followed by a space then “post a comment.” Ex. chicago seo “post a comment” and of course the top entries will most likely have a high PR.

It is tedious work but it will pay off. Another way to gain some links is to post multiple comments on High PR blogs with RELEVANT comments, not just, “Great post man.” Continue posting comments on the high PR blog every day or every other day and while you are doing this, go ahead and put a link to their site in your blogroll and actually click on it to get to their site. This will let the author of the blog know that you are linked to them without saying anything and they will notice you are posting on their site. Whatever you do, do not ask the site/blog author/webmaster for a links to your site upfront, they get tons of requests all day everyday with this approach and it simply does not work!

After a while it will be time to ask for them to link back to you as you have helped them out with some great relevant content on their blog. Hopefully they are cool and your site is worth linking back to and then you will have a sweet link back to your site! Give it a try, or keep sitting there and getting links from all those crappy directories you are submitting your site to!

Web host Host Color (http://www.hostcolor.com) is offering SEO tips on the WordPress blogging solution, it was announced recently. The company, which bills itself as a “provider of quality web hosting services” is adding the tips to its corporate blog. Host Color provides “fully featured” WordPress hosting plans as part of its suite of offerings.

“Create Sitemap, use Permalinks, build quality internal and external links, write good titles and meta tags, make good navigation, use unique design, and finally create quality content,” explained Host Color’s Online Marketing and PR Manager, Dani Stoychev. “Even out of the box and with just a few posts some blogs get high ranking and appear in search results”.

The move comes after Host Color’s September launch of WordPress hosting, which only caters for the WordPress blogging CMS and no other applications. According to the company, the limitation offers quality assurance. Plans offer 1,000 MB disk space and 5 GB data transfer per month but quotas can be increased on a needs basis, although the company strictly adheres to a “no overselling” policy.
