Your Website Sucks, Get Rid of the Brown Nosers!

Hey, I’m the first to admit that my site sucks, but it does show up number one in a Google search for Chicago SEO and other searches, but I am working on the redesign and other web design sites. Chances are your site sucks too and you keep throwing tons of money at it with a team of developers, designers and SEO specialists causing your company to suffer a loss. I’ve worked for companies who have teams of programmers who are not only being over paid, but are useless. It’s better to find one person who can do everything or an experienced company with a proven team of experienced programmers, developers and Search Engine Optimization specialists. I laugh every time I see large companies paying 5 people to do what one person can do more effectively. If you are a large company, it is time you see the light and hire your web programmers and developers off site, keep one programmer or someone with an understanding of what is going on to keep the off site programmers honest. Hire a proven firm with proven expertise and get rid of your useless programmers who can’t think outside of the box. Time is of the essence and your in house programmers are crippling your company with little experience and no creativity.

As a business owner, being brown nosed by one of your employees can blind you to the fact that you need to try something different. Besides, it’s hard to let that brown noser go as it’s nice to be humored all of the time by that employee or employees.

Definition of a brown noser: A person who acts favorably to his or her peers to gain stasis or fancy that will eventually be used to their advantage. Such as a raise, promotion,  acceptance in a group,  job security. Usually brown nosers will do anything to gain the approval of their person of choice. These people can also be described as losers because they can’t work for what they want, instead they play dirty and butter-up the boss/teacher/peer into getting what they want. Another word for this person is a shoe shiner or a rough translation of brown noser in Spanish is, an eye licker.

It is easy to spot the brown noser when you are not the one being brown nosed as jealously will clearly be seen in the brown noser when the person they are brown nosing talks to another employee. I personally seen this happen in a few instances and it sickens me when the brown noser then tries to throw the other employee under the bus,  that he thinks the  “boss” is favoring over him, for anything he or she can.  If you are the brown noser, these statements are hitting home and calling you out so you may just have to brown nose even harder now or just stop being such a hater.  If you are the boss and you read this, hopefully you can see through the bull crap and wipe that brown off your nose by getting rid of that eye licking parasite. If you are the employee who is suffering because the brown noser is hating on you, stick it out and hopefully your boss can see right through it and pass that tapeworm.

I’m always happy to see my readers are listening to my blog posts like when I inform them on the importance of a Yahoo link directory. I’ve even had one reader write me and thank me for the advice. Here’s my next tip of the day, don’t reinvent the wheel, use open source software and save some time and lose a few programmers in the process. Look into WordPress, Drupal and Joomla but use them wisely or don’t even bother, you can always use your group of in house programmers to write their own content management system and it will cost you about 200k, but I like it better free and available today. The knowledge you need is out there all over the internet and best of all it’s free.

Are City/State Landing Pages Also Doorway Pages? Google Thinks So

Search Engine Roundtable
July 18, 2008

A Google Groups thread has discussion on the topic of dynamically creating pages to target localized searches. For example, this particular webmaster wants to be able to target 28 different zip codes for his client’s A/C business. He summarizes what he wants to do:

Johns A/C does work in 28 different zip codes. He creates 28 webspages, page names reflect the township AC_service_City_zip.htm, meta tags reflect city, zip such as Johns AC serivce serving the “City” and “zip code” area. Then the body is a template and the city and zip are filled in for each city/zip area.

This way when someone does a search for AC service “zipcode” or “city” there is a good chance his page will be included.

This was a popular SEO tactic years and years ago. These days, it is much harder to rank well for terms using the automated city database methodology. We actually covered some of the databases you can purchase to accomplish this back in 2005. But is this legit?

According to Google, no it is not. In fact, Googler, Reid, said that the manner in which this webmaster wants to go, seems to be a “doorway page.” Reid said:

I agree with webado in this scenario. If the body of these pages is a template and the only thing that changes is the city and zip code, this sounds a lot like doorway pages:

Why push the limit on how much duplicate content a page can have? Pages with unique content often perform the best in Google’s search results, are better for users, which in turn, is probably better for your business. Interesting old article.

Props

Yelp. Paid People . Fake Reviews.

Here is some more information regarding the Yelp / Razzberry Lips story:* Yelp’s sales reps use negative postings as a “lead source” to call the owner and attempt to sell Business Owner Accounts.* I received a phone call from a sales rep named Summer who stated that negative reviews could be moved to the bottom of the page and possibly removed in the future if I purchased a Business Owner Account.* The hypocrisy of the Yelp founders Jeremy Stoppelman and Russel Simmons is legendary , and is further amplified by their removal of my negative “review” of Yelp on their own website. So much for , “The voice of the people” or “Real People. Real Reviews” *

Yelp hires paid “Yelpers” $15 / dollars an hour to write reviews because their business model is not succeeding. The ads for paid Yelpers can be found on Craigslist in every metro area in the U.S. You could call this, ” Paid People . Fake Reviews”.* On Friday July 4th , 2008 , the SF Chronicle ran an article about how Yelp removes establishments from Yelp if they complain or expose the Yelp hypocrisy publicly.* It is a known fact that Yelp is losing money at a burn rate that could put them out of business by next year. There is another popular website which has a “dead pool” in which the overwhelming number of readers select Yelp to go out of business within a year.

When considering eating at any restaurant or hiring any business to do some work for you, don’t look to Yelp for any help. Businesses everywhere are creating fake accounts to make themselves look good and to discredit the bad reviews which come from genuine reviews. Let’s face it, people who are pissed off about bad food or bad service will actually go out of their way to complain.  It is a lot less often that someone raves about the food they eat or the business they receive.  Yelp is nothing but fake profiles from businesses trying to discredit bad reviews from genuine customers. I will however say that there is another perpatrator on Yelp and that is  former employees or competitors putting up fake accounts to discredit a business.  Bottom line, the only somewhat truthful reviews on Yelp are those that are bad.  If the good outweighs the bad, BEWARE!

I have a friend in the restaurant business that actually had all of his bad reviews removed and positive reviews added, by people Yelp pay, by purchasing a business account and I don’t blame him as I would do the same, but it just shows how unreliable Yelp is for a honest review.
